Tubelord / Shoes and socks off
7:02:11 quarry, Duisburg
This was not the opening act for shoes and socks off, the solo project of Tom Haynes, who usually plays bass with the rather oblique Shield Your Eyes. Hayes has brought out the last two years, sometimes just four albums and an EP of cover versions, and maintains the 50 attendees with its easy-to Kurt Cobain reminiscent voice, and indeed melancholy, but not too whiny songs to alternating acoustic and electric guitar (apart from a short trip to the drums).
Tubelord are now since the release of their debut album Our First American Friends grown to a quartet and the keyboard player is certainly good to face them, he enriched their sound but uncommonly like the incredibly beautiful Ratchet . They sometimes remind me of Hot Club De Paris coupled with early Biffy Clyro, after all, they themselves describe their music as "pop rock songs for kids". In Night Of The Pencils even in the otherwise rather Passing by without grooving the audience dancing legs were swinging. After a good forty minutes, passed the four British, then to still go back for the addition I Am Azerrad to come on stage.
Ah yes, the ear plugs I have not used, because it was indeed loud, but the sound was excellent and suited to this very pleasant evening.
